Behind the Scenes: Dunvegan Castle

Dunvegan Castle gardens

I decided to work first on the portion that I thought might be the most difficult to re-create. The Castle has beautiful gardens and I did want to be sure to include them in my representation!

I made some progress on setting terrain and some landscaping of the lot. Today was a struggle and I will probably make some changes later after I take a break and have time to look over it again.

Some of the inspiration photos showed an old arched bridge leading to the Castle.

There was no way that I could really incorporate that into this build so I had to improvise. What I did do was create an over walk sort of bridge with a lower tunnel leading to the back side portion of the Castle. This would allow for access to a somewhat concealed or at least disguised garage door and some parking. The photos show no parking so I did have to improvise on this addition. Since it will include modern conveniences, I made the garage parking one of those amenities.

The remainder of today’s work was on terrainscaping the rest of the lot… that’s where my struggle came in! I know there are problems with it… Hopefully after I take a break from it and stare at the inspiration photos again, I will figure out a better plan! I did want to include the water and marshy areas that surround it and show up in the inspiration pics- I’m just not really satisfied with the results yet!
